June

Don't worry I do realise that it's July but, I am wondering where June went it seems to have past me by in a bit of a blur. I am still busy painting for my exhibition in September, however, June was a bit of a frustrating month with distractions, illness and family commitments all which seemed to happen on my allocated painting days. Also I am finding it hard to keep my creative flow when I only paint Thursday and Friday, I spend most of Thursday trying to get back in the zone, so progress is definitely on the slow side, I think I will have to rethink my working pattern and probably start painting in the evenings.

June however was still full of inspiration and it started with a visit to Tatton Park in Knutsford which is one of my favourite local places to visit. As usual at this time of year it was full of flowers.

Some beautiful reflections which look a bit like abstract paintings.

Wandered out a little into the park, loving the open space of the landscape

Some photos to follow shortly of the paintings, when I feel brave enough to share. Have a great weekend everyone.

  1. Love the out of focus image and the colours in the water. I'm not a painter but I always have projects on the go. I find a little bit every day (or almost every day) helps to keep me in the zone. I might not achieve much but my mind is on it and it helps me plan & get organised. Looking forward to seeing you new work.

    1. Thanks Patricia, yes I agree doing something ever day is probably the best way to keep the flow going.

  2. Sandra the photos with the Lilly pads are stunning. Good luck with your painting schedule. I bet most of us can relate to the frustration of life interrupting - sus

  3. Lovely! Tatton Park is somewhere I would love to visit, I keep seeing & hearing so many great things about it. Your pictures are stunning and if I squeeze my eyes a bit they actually look like I am looking at paintings and not photographs. I am excited to see your work which develops from them.

Gosh, painting in two days a week I can see will be very tricky. I know when I am in a creative spell, I just want to 'go at it' until the creative urge passes. I also know that is not often possible though as there are so many other things to fit into the equation. I hope I dont distract you by commenting (!) but I just wanted to say how much I am looking forward to seeing some of your work because from the glimpses I've seen on your blog, I know I am going to fall in love with it. Good luck, have a good week of work and I look forward to your next post x

    1. The paintings have gone through a bit of a change and are slightly less abstract than my usual work, I think this is why I am a little reluctant to share. I have loads to do before the exhibition starts, lots of framing of smaller pieces, a website to do and a statement to write for the exhibition. And something else that never occurred to me before I started all this work is the expense with no promise of getting anything back but I am trying not to think about this to much. Thanks again for stopping by Niki and taking the time to comment, I will try and put some photos up soon. x

  4. Ah, interesting! Well I can still picture (vividly) the rose drawings you did earlier this year (I think in a pastel crayon?) which I guess are slightly less abstract and I l o v e them, exciting!
Yes, I have a good friend here who is an artist and she also worries about the framing costs and I can always feel the stress radiating off her when the exhibition date gets close but she always pulls it together and it always works out for her. I would love to see it so make sure you let me know all the fine details when you can (although September looks crazy with uni open days etc but if I can come I certainly will).

    1. That's so kind of you Niki to want to come and it would be lovely to meet you, it's an awfully long way and travel is so expensive these days especially if you are doing other things like uni visits (we are also doing these). It is a fairly small exhibition in the gallery bar of Sale Waterside arts centre (not there main gallery that's quite large and it would take me a long time to fill that) so it would be a big commitment to make the journey, but I will let you know all the details just in case you decide to. x
