Feeling like I need some colour today: Cy Twombly the rose

Media City Manchester: New home of the BBC

Recently I visited Media City in Manchester the new future home of the BBC, we had tickets for a radio 3 broadcast by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. We had a lovely afternoon the sun was shining and the music was inspirational. The whole area has a lovely feel to it and I think it will be a lovely place for people to work the planting outside the front of the buildings is beautiful.

Lots of grasses, lavenders, alliums and silver birch give the whole area a soft peaceful feeling.

Emma Dunbar Exhibition

Beside the wave Gallery in Cornwall are holding an exhibition of Emma Dunbar's latest work from 22nd July to 3rd August. My favourites of hers are always the floral's, they are so colourful and freely painted, just lovely. Here are some of my favourites.

Tatton Park Revisited part 2

A few months ago I visited Tatton Park (a local national trust property) and came across a plant which I think is a lace cap hydrangea. I photographed it in winter when all the flower heads were dead and had dried onto the dormant plant. I went back in spring to photograph the new growth and have just been back to photograph the summer growth. I had no idea what colour the flowers were going to be and unfortunately now I have seen it I am a little disappointed. I was expecting some colour, pink, blue or maybe even white but it is in fact a very pale green.

I still think it looks very beautiful if not very colourful, it is quite delicate and ethereal but it also has great strength.

After all that green I needed some colour so took some photographs of the hanging baskets.

Just need one more visit to complete the cycle of spring, summer, autumn and winter.

Beatriz Milhazes at Fondation Beyeler

I would have loved to have seen this latest exhibition of Beatriz Milhazes, unfortunately it was in Switzerland at the Fondation Beyeler. I do hope that one day she will have a major exhibition in the UK as I would love to see her work in the flesh. The paintings made for this exhibition were based around the four seasons, specifically the four seasons of Brazil. Alongside the paintings there are mobiles. collages and floor work which was made out of gold and platinum.

Cy Twombly

I feel quite sad today because one of my favourite artists Cy Twombly has died. In fact earlier on today (before I found out that he had died) I was looking through the exhibition catalogue from Cycles and Seasons, his last major exhibition at the Tate Gallery, I had been thinking about the four seasons paintings and wanted to remind myself what they looked like. I am so glad I saw this exhibition it was truly wonderful, sad though that there will be no more new paintings.
