Night Paintings

Partly inspired by Roger Hilton and his Night Letters, I have started a new sketchbook of night paintings as a way of getting some of the thoughts that go through my head late at night, down on paper. I have set up my watercolours and sketchbook next to my bed and doing small paintings before I go to sleep. At the moment they seem to be just abstract meanderings because I don't want to over think things, here are paintings 1 to 7.

  2. Wow Sandra what a great thing to do - these are lovely paintings. I would be frightened of knocking the water pot over if I fell asleep!

    1. Thanks Jacqui, I haven't knocked the water over yet but I have been quite disciplined about cleaning my brushes rather than leaving them standing in water!!

  3. A very interesting study. Do you find it easy to concentrate on painting in the evening? I love to paint in the day light, so I guess in the evening I'd be not happy with the not natural light.

    1. I rather like the dimmed lighting and not being able to see clearly, it makes me feel more free, a bit like drawing with your opposite hand or with your eyes closed. Thanks for your comment.

  4. That is a fascinating idea. Do you find you sleep better? Dream less or more? And have you ever drunk your paint water during the night?!And as always I love your work. claire x

  5. Is the cat ok? This is fascinating, I like the color combination you use. I have a chronic dry spell when it comes to creativity, I have no imagination and no talent at all neither in painting nor handicrafts. I am following you, I admire people who are creative. Happy New Year from Rome!

    1. Thanks for your comment, I will have 8 to 14 to post soon, I just haven't got round to photographing it yet because I have been a little busy doing some volunteer work in a local art gallery.
