I have been thinking about stitch recently (before I started painting I was an embroiderer). I have always wanted to bring stitch and paint together but have never quite got around to it. Here are some artists that I am finding inspiring at the moment.
Emily Barletta
Matthew Harris
Roanna Wells
I've just discovered your blog and I recognize what you're writing stitching and painting..
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment, I checked out your blog and I really like your work :)
ReplyDeleteThese are very interesting - it shows, how it seems incompatible things, can be turned into something that looks good. I'll look forward to seeing some of your artwork - I asume you are going to have a go at something similar?
ReplyDeleteHave a look at this: http://www.severija.lt/pirmas.php
A Lithuanian artist who cross stitches metal things!
I didn't recognise the name but, I have seen this artists work before at the Cloth and Culture exhibition a few years ago. Thanks for the link very interesting.
ReplyDeleteThis post took me right back to college. I wrote my dissertation on Contemporary Women Quiltmakers and I interviewed Mary Fogg

Thanks for the link Anna, I have not seen the work of Mary Fogg before, I love all those stripes. My dissertation was on the marginalisation of embroidery and the art/craft debate that was going on at the time.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the links - Emily Barletta's work just makes me want to stitch!
ReplyDeleteMe too, but I still haven't got around to it, to many ideas and not enough time. Thanks for your comment.
