Night Paintings Series

A small series of watercolours inspired by my night paintings sketchbook. I am not entirely happy with them, I probably need to go back to doing some in the sketchbook to get the feel of painting in a more automatic and free thinking way.

They are still quite small, each painting measures 16x16cm and the colour representation is not great either it's been so dull here, it's really difficult to photograph anything.
Also, trying to tweak the blog a little so you might see it changing over the next few days, probably ending up with me putting back to how it was originally!!

  1. Very much like your colour combinations. Watercolour is such a lovely medium for capturing spontaneous gestures.
Thank you Sandra, for your kind comments on my blog.

  2. Oh, these are beautiful and intriguing. By night time do you mean inspiration from images in your dreams or are these from patterns and scenes you have seen at night time and inspired you? I would love to see these printed onto textiles - I would like to wear them in silk!

    1. The night paintings were a project I started a while ago, I would have my sketchbook and watercolours next to my bed and before I settled down to sleep I would do one or two small paintings. I have put a link in the post Niki which will tell you more about it. Hope your open studio goes well, I would definitely pay you a visit if I lived closer.
