Paul Murray

Red table with cups and cakes

The Scottish artist Paul Murray is a new discovery for me, I came across his work fairly recently at the Lemon Street Gallery in Cornwall. I really like his semi abstract still life and landscape paintings, I love the colours which range from vibrant reds pinks and blues to more subtle and monochromatic. The paintings have great textures and patterns which are achieved by using acrylics collage and gouache, and are inspired  by his local environment.

  1. These are really bright and very unique. Looking at them one could say - "is this for real? I could do something like that easily!" but you need to think of something like that first!

For me personally they are very inspiring - I'd like to have a go at creating something similar, yet I'm sure I wouldn't suceed I'm too much of a realist.

    Thank you for sharing.

  2. Love the reds, but interestingly am drawn to the white shapes.

  3. Sometimes it can be good to do something a little different and out of your comfort zone just for fun. The compositions are really strong, which I think is why in all those lovely strong colours your eye is drawn to the little yellow cup or the white areas of paint. Thanks for the comments :)
