Small Paintings

Currently working on some small affordable paintings to put in my shop that I am hoping to open in the new year.

Oil, Pastel and Graphite on Paper
One problem I am having is photographing the work, the colours are not quite right, so if anyone has any tips I would be really grateful. The above painting is a little softer and more green.

    Unfortunately no matter how well you get the colours to look on your monitor, they will look different on every other monitor because they are all calibrated differently. I tend to do my best for my screen, then add a comment alongside the lines of customer being aware that the real colours may very slightly from what they see on screen because the calibration differs from monitor to monitor.

    I do the same and just mention that the painting might look slightly different in real life :) I find photographing work hard too, I often scan mine and tweak it a bit in Photoshop, and I've just bought a daylight bulb to try to see if that helps :)

    sounds exciting!
    I have tried using CMYK and RGB settings to see which is closest to the truth.
    Also playing with the balance in PS. And you can't beat a bit of full on natural morning daylight.

    Thanks for your advice, Birdie, Chloe and Claire. I sometimes play around in Photoshop and I have tried altering things like the brightness and contrast or tone and colour none of them seem to get it quite right. As they are small I could try scanning I hadn't thought of that. I have taken this photo in Raw as I was told that was the best way to photograph art work as it takes in more detail.

    I am not sure how to achieve the true colours Sandra - does your camera have any colour adjustment as a friend of mine found that the photos she took were too blue and I think if you select the white balance and then you have to press the shutter so that it adjusts for the actual light you are taking in the room, and then take your photo, that might work. She found it a lot better anyway.

      Thanks for the information Jacqui, my camera does have lots of different options for the actual light I think what I really need to do is take a short course in how to use my camera!!
